What Makes Vaude Special?

In 1974 Albrecht von Dewitz, a lifelong mountaineer and outdoor enthusiast formed Vaude in rural Southern Germany, a stone's throw from the Alps and on the shores of Lake Constance. This location still allows their employees to indulge their passion for the outdoors, even in lunch breaks! It also means Vaude are able to test their gear thoroughly and to constantly refine their designs.

Since the beginning Vaude have produced design classics like the Badawi family tent range, the lightweight and compact Taurus tent range and their extensive range of backpacks. This innovative design ethos continues today with the Power tent range, such as the Power Odyssee and Power Odyssee XT. Their quest for the best fabrics available has led to their use of the extremely breathable eVent membrane in their waterproof clothing Their dedication to the UK outdoor market is demonstrated by the Triset range of rucksacks, designed and developed exclusively for UK outdoor enthusiasts.

On July 17th 2008 Vaude was added to the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) Register. This makes Vaude the first European Outdoor business to receive EMAS registration. The Baden-Württemberg Minister President, Günther Oettinger, and Thomas Urban, CEO of the German Alpine Association (DAV), also took part in the ceremony. Both offered Vaude hearty congratulations for reaching this ecological milestone.

Vaude also sponsor a number of social and environmental projects, including the project "Installation of a Cross-border Hiking Trail in the Balkan Region", awarded the Environment Award of the Association for Conservation (AFC) and saving the local public swimming pool from closure!

Vaude is based in Germany and is proud of having products that are "Made in Germany" in their range of goods. A majority of their products are manufactured outside of Germany. They ensure fair working conditions and ecological awareness with their Code of Conduct.
