The wheel wasn't invented for nothing. Unless you need a backpack for use in the mountains then moving luggage and equipment should be as easy as possible. A suitcase with wheels makes life so much more bearable. Even your hand luggage can be a wheeled bag and still be the right size to fit into the overhead locker. A laptop bag, briefcase and travel bag combined into one well designed piece of equipment. You will be looking for a range of features including a pull out handle, smooth gliding wheels and many internal organiser pockets.

The Vaude Rails 40 even has conventional rucksack straps (so you can carry it on your back) which can be stowed when not in use. Larger wheeled travelling bags may also include an attached daysack. This can useful when you need separate hand luggage.

Keeping your luggage looking clean can be a problem especially when it has many miles to travel. The Vaude Tonga uses a Tarpolin fabric which is both waterproof and easy to clean.
