Mountain backpacks are often 25 to 40 litres in capacity. The allow the user the opportunity to carry the essential gear that he or she might need when in a more remote mountain environment. This may include a group shelter, first aid kit, spare clothes, food, flask, bivi bag etc. If it is winter then the user will certainly need to carry crampons, ice axe, helmet and maybe even a rope.

The rucksack needs to tough, Vaude will use Cordura in most of their mountain back packs. Cordura is more durable than cotton fabric, 3x more durable than standard polyester. It is excellent when rock climbing and the back pack gets roughed up a lot.

Mountain packs need to combine a design that is both simple yet perfectly considered. They may include a combination of the following features; side compression straps that reduce the volume of the pack but also can carry skis. A rope strap under the lid that can secure your climbing rope. Ice tool fixing points, a floating top lid that can increase the volume of the pack when it is fully loaded.

The Vaude Conex 45+10 allows you to remove the hip belt and connect the back pack to an Edelrid climbing harness, improving fit and reducing bulk and also can be extended by 10 extra litres. Whether you are hiking into a favourite crag or loaded up for a multi pitch expedition this backpack needs to be reliable, versatile and tough.
