The most important part of your mountain equipment will be your mountain tent. Often pitched in wild country and bad weather it needs to be something you can rely on to keep you safe when you are hiking. The tent poles need to be good quality.

The Vaude Power Atreus 3 man tent uses Aluminium 7001 T6; 9,0mm poles and when combined with Vaude's Powerframe system offers a tent which can withstand very high winds indeed. The fabrics used in mountain equipment need to be tough and as light as possible . This is specialist camping equipment. The flysheet is made from 40D Polyamid RS 240T with both sides siliconised, giving a 3,000mm hydrostatic head. You may need a snow skirt.

The Vaude Space K2 has one of these. It comes in Orange for increased viability and also has an optional second set of poles which can be used to increase the strength in really bad weather.

The award winning Vaude Mark II has been a well established mountaineering tent for some years. It has 2 porches which can make kit stowage and entry and exit much more manageable for 2 or even 3 people. It is roomy with excellent ventilation making extended stays more comfortable. In high winds its external pole shock cord fixing system has proved to be very reliable and easy to pitch. There is also an option to storm guy the tent using the additional sewn in guying points.
