Vaude Mens Pace eVent Jacket

eVent® is a waterproof microporous PTFE membrane (polytetrafluoroethylene) that exhibits a higher breathability than any other membrane used today. This uniquely high breathability is reached through a permanent transformation of the polymer structure that requires no additional penetrating PU layer. Until now, all membranes have needed this PU layer to protect the fabric’s surface structure from damaging body fats and oils as well as detergents. A PU coating has the drawback of absorbing and retaining moisture. Because eVent® functions without this PU layer, the pores of the membrane stay open allowing moisture to escape unhindered. Direct Venting™ Technology functions in two ways:

• Moisture escapes directly through the fabric without being retained in the membrane.
•  Air transfer begins immediately at full performance levels, without a time lag because the temperature differential that was needed up until now is no longer necessary.

This efficient moisture management prevents sweat from condensing inside of the garment, effectively protecting the body from hypothermia. With a RET of 2.7 (2 layer construction) or 4.5 (3 layer construction) eVent® reaches peak values. The RET value is a measurement of the breathability of a membrane. It describes the Resistance of Evaporation of a Textile. A lower number means a lower amount of resistance and thus a higher degree of moisture diffusion through the fabric, thus higher breathability.
